Institute Committee Qualifications
While the CSI Committee's Guide outlines the duties and responsibilities
of the various committees, the following are other considerations
to be taken into account in making recommendations for appointments.
The actual number of members on each committee will be determined
by the Executive Committee-Elect depending on the projected workload
of the committees or where specified by the Bylaws and Institute
Policy. Computer skills and internet or e-mail access is essential
for all committee members.
Committee Requirements
Academic Affairs Program
Experience with institutions of higher learning to increase recognition
of CSIs value; ability to provide curricular and extra curricular
resources essential to the educational foundation of academic
institutions and to foster relationships with academic institutions
for the advancement of new technology, in order for the Institute
to be a better resource for the construction industry. Members
are appointed by the Institute Directors from each region.
Awards
Broad experience in Institute programs and affairs. Members
should be able to attend and participate in CSIShow and Annual
Convention awards activities. New members are required to
be an exhibit booth judge at the CSIShow and Annual Convention
in April prior to beginning their appointment in July.
Annual Meeting
The chairman and at least one member will be a chapter member
of the CSI Show site location (i.e. the appointments made for
FY 2006 will be from Las Vegas). One member should be from the
ensuing year CSI Show site. Chairman shall have served as
a committee member from the previous year and must be able to
participate in the Annual Meeting. Members should be able
to attend the CSI Show.
Certification
Broad knowledge of CSI Manual of Practice, Formats, AIA, and EJCDC
documents. Ability to use computers for word processing
and electronic mail. Must hold CCS, CCPR, or CCCA certification.
Each committee member will be required to sign a confidentiality
agreement prior to formal acceptance to the committee. Relatives
of a committee member living in the same household are not eligible
for any certification examination.
Finance
The Institute treasurer is a voting member. Broad financial
experience in business; familiarity with accounting, auditing,
financial control, and budgeting procedures; ability to interpret
balance sheets and income and expense statements; and knowledge
of CSI programs.
Jury of Fellows
The Jury consists of three Fellows of the Institute and three
non-Fellows. Appointment is for a three-year term.
One Fellow and one non-Fellow will be replaced for FY 2005.
The Bylaws prohibit members of the Jury from serving two consecutive
terms. Appointments of Fellows and non-Fellows to the Jury
shall be made so that the term of office of no more than one Fellow
and one non-Fellow shall expire in any year. Members of
the Board shall not serve on the Jury. Members should be
familiar with Fellowship nominating procedures and have ability
to evaluate materials submitted for Fellowship.
Membership
Experience in membership promotion is desirable. Members are appointed
by the Institute Directors from each region.
Nominating
One member from each of five regions for a two-year term, two
appointed one year and three the following year, in rotation among
the regions. Members of the Board are ineligible to serve on this
committee. Members of the Institute Nominating Committee must
have served as an Institute Board member or major committee chairman
within the previous four years; must be familiar with the Institutes
Strategic Plan; must have knowledge of the criteria for each Institute
office; or must have completed Leadership Development Curriculum.
A separate request for appointments to the Nominating committee
is sent from the Chairman of the Nominating Committee to the Institute
Directors of the regions which will require nominations for the
upcoming fiscal year.
Professional Development
Experience and interest in CSI education activities. Professional
education experience combined with knowledge of written construction
documents is desirable.
Specifications Competition
Broad, practical, and current experience in the organization of
project manuals and knowledge of CSI formats and Project Resource
Manual. Members will conduct the annual specification competition
judging and select award winners from the entries received.
Recommended members should be from chapters which have the resources
and manpower available to assist the member in evaluating entries.
Must hold a CCS or CCPr designation.
Technical
Broad knowledge of CSI technical documents and knowledge of the
technical information needs of the membership. Ability to
establish priorities for new documents.
Tellers
No recommendations will be accepted chairman is the District
of Columbia Metropolitan Chapter President. The chairman
solicits members from the Baltimore, D. C. Metropolitan, and Northern
Virginia chapters.
